- size: 160 x 150 cm
Thando Mahlangu’s blanket design was inspired by his mother’s traditional Ndebele paintings and beadwork and is the culmination of AmaNdebele designs, seen through the generations. It brings together the past and the present. The colours used are not only the traditional Ndebele colours, but are also indicative of our Rainbow Nation. Colour is a powerful tool which the Ndebele people use to express themselves and is used as a form of communication through their art. Red represents the blood that was shed during wars that the AmaNdebele Kings and forefathers fought to protect their language, culture and land. Yellow represents the financial freedom that the Ndebele people seek. Maroon represents the land that the AmaNdebele own. Green is indicative of their participation in agriculture and food production and blue stands for economic growth through culture. Carrying a rich heritage, this exclusive and high quality blanket signifies craftsmanship and proud cultural tradition, beautifully woven together.
